East Stroudsburg Real Estate – First, lets understand that homes in East Stroudsburg are grouped into two areas. The East Stroudsburg Boro and The East Stroudsburg School District. 

The first is a couple square miles centered around downtown, the University and The Medical Center. Homes in the second, the School District / postal delivery area can go as far as 18-20 miles from the central downtown area. This second group is still considered East Stroudsburg, but might actually be in other neighborhood areas i.e. Marshalls Creek, Bushkill, Analomink, Wooddale etc.

The area of East Stroudsburg was first permanently settled in 1738, (11 years after the DePuy family settled in Shawnee 3 miles east in 1727) when James Monroe received a warrant of 600 acres in Bucks County, now Monroe County along the east bank of the Analomink or Smithfield Creek; now named Brodhead Creek.

An additional warrant for 150 acres on the west bank was given to Brodhead in 1750. Brodhead, a judge, was friendly with the local Indians, as well as with the Moravian missionaries who came to the area from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. After its founding East Stroudsburg transformed from a small community of farmers into a marketing center for local businesses in the 1920s. The tradition still stands today at the with Crystal Street being the commercial center of the town. Stores and restaurants provide services for local residents and East Stroudsburg University residents and sell everything from produce to baked goods to candy.

East Stroudsburg was a key contributor to the Poconos region economic boom of the early 19th century through its textile farming and educational industries. Today, its diversified economy supports reinvented urban manufacturing, entrepreneurship through start-up incubators like the like that provided by the University.

In recent years, downtown East Stroudsburg has seen a massive renaissance and development in its core commercial zones along Crystal street and Lincoln Ave where these zones continue to attract new businesses, luxury living spaces, developers, energy, and visitors into East Stroudsburg, PA . 

Pairing with that urban renewal, East Stroudsburg is teeming with cultural attractions; its many music, historic sites, The University and arts organizations contribute to its renewal.
